A private retreat, designed by an artist for artists, writers, or anyone looking for the peaceful, quiet beauty of nature. Situated on a private half mile of exquisite natural shoreline on the Connecticut River in Vermont.

Make this your retreat.

The River

This stretch of the river is described in The Canoer’s Guide to the Connecticut River as “the most beautiful part of the river.” One can paddle north four miles, and see only one distant house, no motorboats, an occasional kayak or canoe, and occasional wildlife; deer, ducks, geese, a local nest of bald eagles, beaver, fox, mink, wild turkeys, and lots of other birdlife.

For kayakers and canoers  traveling the border, this could be your stop, after nights of camping, to be pampered, and sent off in the morning, after a blessed night’s decent meal, (with previous arrangement), peaceful comfortable sleep, bath and full breakfast.

The Accommodation

The first floor of this 47’ round house is your private retreat. This open floor plan, with 180 degree views through continuous six foot picture windows, of the river as it wraps  wraps around the house , includes  a bedroom with queen size bed, living room area, (with couch that opens to comfortable queen size), French doors that open  to your own 30 foot private porch, overlooking the river, with views north and south, east across the river is New Hampshire. (One can swim to that shore.) Just below the porch is the perfect sandy beach, and swimming vortex, surrounded by worn rock ledges, jutting into the river.

Also included is a north light studio area with full easel, a small kitchenette, a most exquisite private bath, and interior French doors to main entrance.  Radiant heat in the bamboo floors throughout, makes all cozy.

Two cats, Captain Stubbs, and Theo, along with Queenie, a lovely American Eskimo dog, live upstairs with your host, Keita Colton, and may visit you on your porch from time to time. Previously Keita owned and ran an historic and top-rated B+B for eight years, and cooks to the whims and delight of her guests.

Gardens and Walking

Lots of gardens and walking paths, with the greatest respect for the natural habitat of all. Our hope is that in preserving this little half mile paradise, people will fall in love with it too, and come back to a familiar sweet spot, year after year.
